The following was sent to me by an ex-WRANETC who would like to contact other WRANETC's. If you'd like to contact her, please email me.
I'd love to get in contact with current WRAN ETC women. (I know they aren't known by that rank anymore but I can't call them Seaman, it would be like asking the current serving Male SMN to give up their honourable rank of SMN and made overnight to be known as WRETC and to order them to wear our W1s, W2s & W6s (our precious White summer dresses, stockings, gloves, handbag and white/beige pettycoat and underwear underneath). And for winter out Black jacket, skirt and stockings, gloves and handbag.
I don't think the guys would like to be "stripped" of everything we stood for.
As one of the new WRETCs to enter the Greenie field it was hard enough with the occasional backlash we got, plus when we went on board to serve on all RAN vessels.
I don't blame the guys for feeling like that... what the govt did to us with "stripping" us was the same in a parallel type of way.
The politicians, do-gooders, and some in RAN should have given everyone balance and equality and pay, but left us with our dignity and honour and our uniform, plus a set of trousers similar to the WRNPOs have now to serve on board ships.
I've worked my entire life with men and proud to do so. My First comment said to my full fellow crew in all my jobs was: Hi guys, please just treat me as one of the guys, if you need help I'll be there and if I need help I'll ask. Please don't stand on ceremony, stop swearing, or dirty jokes, as I said treat me bc like one of the guys. I prefer it that way. One final think if you need an ear to talk to, I'm it, and if you want to give me a clean nickname please do". I had a lovely working relationship and marriage with my jobs.
